Dining and lunching on the Riviera

It's been a while since our last meetup with Mathilde's lovely bunch of CIV colleagues, so we were quite happy for the invitation to Claire and Antoine's place in Carros. Before heading up the winding roads up to their place (taking, as custom dictates, a couple of wrong turns on the way there) we decided to take advantage of the Telerama film festival and check out Drive for the more than reasonable ticket fee of 3 euros each (or something along those lines...) - great movie, one of the movies of 2011 I'd really wanted to see... All the usual suspects were on duty – Marie (back from her odyssey to sunny Mexico), Maite, Julie and Aurelian as well as our hosts (and their lovely children, of course!)

As usual, we were treated to good wine, excellent company and not least importantly, some rather delicious food. To honor the winterly season, I suppose, we were treated to one of my favorite dishes – raclettes. Melted cheese, potatoes and some charcuterie (with a bit of salad on the side), what else could one hope for ? Some banoffee pie a la Mathilde for a desert, of course, what else!? All in all, a brilliant evening, then!

The day after, on the Sunday, we'd been kindly invited over to Naim's place for lunch – an invitation we were more than happy to accept! (especially since the memory of the last delicious Pakistani dish he cooked for us was still fresh in our minds). He didn't disappoint this time either – the fish he cooked for us was rather delicious. Our appetites sated, we made our way to Cinema Rialto to check out yet another film, Le Havre – the latest oeuvre of that genius of Finnish cinema; Aki Kaurismaki. What can I say about Le Havre – a typically humane, touching, so Kaurismakian film (even though it was set in France, rather than Finland). Strongly recommended! We finished a rather lazy but very nice sunday with some tea and galette des Rois at Naim's place...
